I love Las Vegas, but don’t move here if…

Las Vegas reminds me of a childhood story about the champion who wanted the king’s only daughter and had to pass various challenges to get her. If he failed at any stage he could die, but the success meant the hand of the king’s daughter and eventual throne. Las Vegas gives you exactly what you are looking for and then some, just be careful what you wish for because you may get it. If you are good enough in your chosen field, Las Vegas rewards you more than any place else, and if you make mistakes it punishes you more severely than any other place. Great practitioners of gambling come here, make a bundle of money and end up staying here and make even more money, however for every one of these there are hundreds who “thought” there were good enough and ended up losing all they had, Las Vegas casinos are not built on winners money.

Here you can find any drug or vice you could possibly imagine and quite a few that are outside your realm of imagination, downside is doing vice in Las Vegas is the best way to see the ugly face of Vegas which I call the meat grinder.  If you get in it, you will come out the other side like a hamburger, the meat and bones are yours but it is not you. No back bone, no honor, no consideration for others, you become something like a copper plumbing line thief who does $1000 damage to peoples properties to make a dollar in order to get his “fix”, in short you go in a human being and come out non-human.

I say to others if you do two of the following three, Las Vegas will first break and the then kill you. The three are drinking heavily, using hard drugs and gambling, no matter who you are. Stu Unger comes to mind, he was one of the greatest poker players to ever play poker, made a million in a year, lost it and won it back in the same year. He died young, due to drug use.  I was talking to a dealer at the Bellagio and he stated that the last time he saw Stu, he could see death on his face.

On the other side of the coin there are many people who came here with nothing and now enjoy a life style beyond their wildest imagination. They worked hard and used casinos as one should, for fun. If they drink , it is social drinking and they avoided hard drugs all together. As I said in the last blog post, every major decision in life has to be accompanied by some kind of self examination. Before moving to this beautiful oasis you need to figure out whether you can avoid the Las Vegas meat grinder or not. If you can’t, don’t move here because Las Vegas WILL KILL YOU.
