Some become a hero due to a spur of the moment decision to help others at their own determent, others live a lifetime helping those who can’t help themselves. Unfortunately the first group gets most of the glory while most of the second group live a lifetime of anonymity. Personally I admire the life timers more than the spur of the moment heroes due to the fact that it is much harder to grind out a heroic life.
One such hero is Dr. Steelman, she has a veterinary practice on the N. E corner of Lake Mead and Buffalo named Bonanza Cat Hospital. As soon as you get there you will notice a bunch of cats roaming free in her office and adjacent space to which she has expanded. Most of these cats would not be alive if it wasn’t for our sweet doctor. They are handicapped or suffering from different illnesses. A few were turned in to her because they were no longer loved or their elderly owners passed away. Owners of a few cats asked her to euthanize unnecessarily which our doctor refused and kept the cats. The vast majority of these cats can’t be placed for adoption as they need lifelong care by a vet and will reside with her for the rest of their life.
Dr. Steelman has set up the Poppy Foundation for Cats in order to get some help toward paying for the cats food and medication as the cost of caring and providing a very nice place for so many cats could run into hundreds of dollars per month.
I have four cats, their names are Mr. Tutty Pishee, Mr. Mooshie Pishee, Mr. Sheeri Pishee and last but not lease Ms. Pishee. Pishee means cat in Persian and Sheer is a lion so we have a Mouse cat and a lion cat, Tutty was named after King Tut.
Cats are erroneously believed to be aloof and cold, this can’t be further from the truth. Cats are a very kind and loving species and love their humans (not owners), as you are as much their human as they are your cat.
If you give a bit of attention to Dr. Steelman’s cats, you will have a few around you in no time, these cats will compete for your love and give you a great deal of love back. What runs Dr. Steelman’s practice is love, but love doesn’t pay the bills. So please, please help my Las Vegas Hero with her charity.
You can sponsor one of these sweet cats for $10 per month and you can pay for six months to a year in advance if you like.
She has a web-site Poppy Foundation for Cats which I will gladly add to my blog role in order to help her sites ranking in search engines and would appreciate it very much if you do so too. It should be noted that I am very stingy about giving one way links, but this is a matter of the heart.
Her contact info follows:
Bonanza Cat Hospital, Dr. Linda Steelman D.V.M.
Poppy Foundation
7550 W. Lake Mead Blvd Suite 1
Las Vegas, Nevada, 89128
She is also looking for volunteers to help take care of the cats. So if you love cats but for some reason can’t have one in your home you can volunteer so that you can have the pleasure of the unconditional love pets bring.
Happy Valentine’s Day to all, I am hoping you find it in your hearts to help.
Cat lover and Las Vegas Realtor, Masoud
