The poor lady who is forced by various reasons to stand at the side of the disgraced governor had no life in her eyes and the expression on her face was the definition of defeat. I am totally clueless as to why these women have to get dragged to their husband’s public confession. My brain fails to understand the need for this as it fails on all fronts.
The public gets to watch the agony of the lady live and then repeatedly for days. People feel even sorrier for her and get even madder at the politician; I don’t see what the politician gains. If this is to be interpreted as an expression of the wife’s support for the husband, how stupid do they think the public is? What spouse will publically endorse her hubby’s discretion? Even if it was understood that the husband can play the field, and I am not saying it ever was, I am sure there would an understanding that the husband shouldn’t get caught.
How would these guys that have devised this farce like a few million eyes watch their significant other’s public confession while they are standing behind him/her? Public humiliation has been tried over history as a punishment for criminal or unethical acts. Additionally even the condemned are theoretically spared cruel and unusual punishment.
What will you call the process these poor ladies are put through? First the big news and then the press will inundate her and her innocent children at all times and actually keep them prisoner at their own residence.
Some traditions are stupid and have to be discontinued and dragging these women to press conferences or public confessions should be one of them. I believe that the politician should be man enough to face the press and public on his own and ask the public to respect his family’s privacy. I also believe that even if the politician is not man enough to face them alone and ask them to leave his family alone, they should do it anyway. Poor lady has enough to deal with.
Funny, after all this the guy resigns.
