This is an update to
Scam Alert, New Phone Scam, Do not call 1-900-622-8000, it will cost you more than $100, Please forward to your local police, news organizations and friends
This post was dated May/12/2008 and as I thought nothing had been done about this scam by law enforcement entities, I called the Las Vegas Police fraud division, and after interrogating me for a few minutes, the officer showed no interest in the matter and referred me to Nevada Attorney General whom I will contact shortly.
The pimps (it is an escort service outfit) behind this scam called my phone number today again, as they have at least three time a week since my post. This time they called me from 1-522-417-4563 (scammer’s new number) and asked me at the end of their taped message to push number one, I did and hung up. As soon I hung up the phone, it rang again and a female inquired as to why I hung up the phone; to which I answered with a barrage of choice words, told her that I know she is a scammer and informed her that I have her local phone number on my caller ID and that I am going to shut them down. After contacting the police I called 702-478-3894 again and told her with many other choice words that her time is up.
While I was gone she called my number again and told my wife how rude I was (that is an understatement) and that they are a Las Vegas escort service and that their phone number is unpublished and would not show on the caller ID. Unfortunately for them they neglected to make sure that all their local numbers don’t show on the caller ID.
Oh, far be it from me to accuse a pimp of breaking the law, what was I thinking?
Anyway the list of their victims grows on a daily basis and if you Google 1-900-622-8000, you will find 68 posts about this scam. Here is a post from one victim:
“A charge was made to my credit card for $50. The merchant’s phone # was listed on the credit card statement as 800-682-2289. When I called the number to find out who the merchant was, the number had been changed to 900-622-8000. There is a fee charged to the caller so I can’t find out if the charge is legitimate or not without incurring a charge. In speaking with my credit card company, the charge is a monthly fee which originated without the presence of my card. So even though I didn’t receive a call, I smell a scam.”
The above post was from the Florida Attorney General. If you think that law enforcement authorities don’t know about this, they do, but choose to do nothing about this problem, so these criminals who prey upon the weakest and uniformed members of our society are roaming free and get more careless because they know nothing is going to happen to them.
Given that they charge people’s phone bills or credit cards, it should be relatively easy to trace the payments.
Remember at least in Las Vegas they target those poor souls who owe money to health care entities.
I will shut them down, but need your help. If you have fallen victim to these lowest of the low, forward this article to law enforcement agencies and complain.
I am not a victim of these lowlifes, but see it as a moral duty to defend my community against them. Like they say; if not me, who? If not now, when? I hope other responsible members of any community act the same way. Help me shut these dirt bags down.
Those who have lost money to these criminal now have a phone number to call, 702-478-3894.
