President Obama criticized the criminal head honchos of major banks for having conventions or events in Las Vegas or at the Super Bowl. So one corporation that was going to have a convention or event in Las Vegas cancelled and moved it to San Francisco. Las Vegas is much cheaper than San Francisco and that is why people come here.
Show me anyone that shed a tear for the residents of Sodom or Gomorra while reading their story in the Torah, Bible or Quran and I will show you the person who gives a damn about rescuing Las Vegas economy outside Las Vegans. Actually once I read that if 90% of Las Vegas gets wiped out, if it doesn’t affect the services at our casinos, the tourists wouldn’t even notice it and it is right. I never got off the Strip except for visiting Fremont Street and downtown Las Vegas.
The responsibility is wholly on our leaders who have chosen to introduce Las Vegas to the world as a magnet for prostitutes, drugs, gambling and those who seek them. Remember the commercials about what happens in Las Vegas stays in Las Vegas. May be there was time that this was effective, no longer.
Let’s take a look at who Las Vegans are. We are some of the hardest working people in the United States who moved to this great city because it offered a great value and a chance at a new life, not because of gambling, drugs or prostitutes. We have some of the world’s foremost construction workers and world class service industry visionaries and the best architecture (even though some are fake) on earth.
Las Vegas population is a mixed bag of immigrants from all over the United States and the world who work together to make a better future for this great metropolis. We had the pleasure of representing native buyers from the five continents who add so much to our collective culture.
Las Vegas is a trail blazer in proving that people of all kinds of religions and cultures can work together in harmony in a small, crowded geographic area and disprove false arguments that people of different religions or cultures have to be enemies because their ancestors were enemies or currently there is war over real estate and power, that is fought under the name of religions. We in Las Vegas are a tolerant people and respectful of all cultures and creeds.
If our leaders would try to show the real face of Las Vegas who are Las Vegans and not drugs, gambling and more, the rest of United States would give a damn about us and our economy.
May be it is time to shoot a commercial with hard working Las Vegans of different nationalities, races and religions all shouting out
WE ARE THE WORLD, WE ARE THE UNITED STATES, WE ARE LAS VEGAS, COME OVER AND LET US PAMPER YOU!
